The 9″ gauge is great for understanding zoning areas where units may come in from reserve, 6″ gauge for counting how many models are challenging an objective, 3″ gauge for piling in / attacking / coherency to just name a few uses. Your 3″ gauge has measurements for 0.5″, 1″, 2″ and 3″ at the various edges.
