March ’20 Update

Hasn’t the world changed since my last update! I hope you all are safe, healthy, and have plenty of hobby to keep you busy in these challenging times.

I thought I’d take this opportunity to share an update on what’s happening in my world;

PATREON

Firstly, I want to thank you again for your continued support.

In this economically challenging time I want to share with you that it’s ok if you decide to not longer support the channel in the future. Nothing will change in our relationship and I will continue to create as much valuable Age of Sigmar content as I can schedule. I don’t know how Covid-19 has impacted you and your family… but know that it’s ok to reduce, suspend or cancel your support.

It is important to keep interacting with your communities as we attempt to socially distance ourselves, so I want to invite you into the AoS Coach Discord channel if you’re not already apart of it.

What’s Happened On The Channel

I’ve had a busy couple of weeks working on (what I think is) interesting topics including discussions on Women in Warhammer, Warhammer narrative & lore, Emerging Meta and (finally) the Flesh Eater Courts faction focus.

I’ve soft launched the AoS Coach website which includes a selection of merchandise, and continue to expand the podcast for people who aren’t always able to access YouTube.

What’s To Come On The Channel

Prior to Covid-19 I had a tournament scheduled almost every month until July… that’s obviously changed.

While we all have more time to hobby, I’ll be focusing on more ways to keep connected to the community through YouTube and Discord. On Discord, we are already having regular audio hangouts with whoever is online at the time. It’s very organic but has been loads of fun getting to know everyone. Sadly while everyone is hobbying, I’m normally working.

I’ll be looking to schedule more interesting discussions like the recent discussion with 2+ Tough (Doug), and more regular hobby hangouts. I might have found a way to integrate the live audio feed from Discord so others can join me while I’m live on YouTube. Just another reason why you want to be on Discord.

I’ll also need to record an updated version of Disciples of Tzeentch & Seraphon faction focuses.

Outside Of The Channel

I’ve been working from home almost daily for the last few weeks which has been a unique challenge. On one hand it’s been great to spend more time at home, hang out with my dog, and sneak in Warhammer during breaks or on conference calls. On the other hand is that it gets boring being at home constantly.

I run a yearly tournament which attracts around 100 players each year which is scheduled in October. I’ve been making more terrain to ensure we have great tables. I think I built 50+ Azyrite Ruins this week alone!

Long Overdue Update

Sorry for the long stretch between updates. Every year in Australia, all eyes turn toward CanCon for the worlds largest Age of Sigmar event. This event is our annual pilgrimage and it takes a lot of my focus getting an army painted, practised, as well as build up a display board with terrain.

Thank you to everyone who continues to support this channel. So far you have created the podcast platform, helped purchase new equipment, and fund new content. So… now the promised update;

CanCon

The Empire / Freeguild is my first and true love… and with a new battletome there is no way I was taking anything else. Magic has always been a draw card for me all the way back to the College of Magic in The Empire’s capital of Altdorf so it was fitting to take Hallowheart.

218 players finished the 6 game tournament at CanCon and I would end 52nd with 4 wins and 2 losses, as well as being voted 3rd Coolest Army which got me this sweet ForgeWorld exclusive trophy.

The display board was an opportunity to find my space in the Mortal Realms as I developed the narrative of Nultdorf (or New Altdorf) which is situated in the Opal Isle of Aqshy, acts as an entry point to the Flamscar Plateau and is the primary research centre for the Imperial Colleges of Magic.

The armies that I faced were: Ogor Mawtribes > Nighthaunt > Skaven > Kharadon Overlords > Nurgle > Ossiarch Bonereapers

Content

Now that Christmas & CanCon have passed I can get back to schedule for producing content.

Late last year I kicked off a new series of videos called Emerging Meta which has been wildly successful. I didn’t know how the community would initially respond to a data driven video. I’ll keep producing monthly videos as long as people find them valuable.

I recently recorded an updated Faction Focus Kharadon Overlords video to align with the new book. I have FF Slaves To Darkness scheduled for next week andddddd with the sun, moon and stars aligning will have FF Flesh Eater Courts completed in January… maybe FF Tzeentch too.

In order to catch up on the backlog of Faction Focuses I’ve temporarily suspended Down Under Sigmar for February. My wives birthday falls on the date of one of the shows, and the fortnight after is our first date anniversary which only reinforced the suspension.

Once we’ve caught up on the new battletomes I have a few plans with that unlocked capacity. The first is the previously mentioned Getting Started Into Age of Sigmar series.

December hosted the first Hobby Hangout on YouTube which people seemed to enjoy so I’ll look to get that set up in February and reoccurring each month.

Discord

If you didn’t already know there is an AoS Coach Discord server that’s been set up for a few months now. Please message me if you don’t already have the link.

Midwest Meltdown & Grudges

I’m coming to America in July! I’ll be travelling over to the West Coast for a friends wedding, however; I’ll be ending the trip with the Midwest Meltdown tournament in Illinois. Let me know if you are coming to the event. I’ll be playing in the doubles event as well as the singles tournament.

I’ll be also heading over to South Australia to play at SAGT in March, possibly the ANZAC Cup in April, and Sydney Slaughter in June. You’ll see WSorran & Kenny have both grudged me for Round #1 at the respective tournaments. If we’re playing at the same tournament in the future I’d love to set up a grudge match.

Make sure to join the Discord so we can continue the conversation.

March 2021 Update

I don’t know what your March was like… but mine was rather crazy! I’ve been interviewing for a new role at a tech company, preparing for a large AoS tournament, recording content for the channel, ran a 48 player event, as well as making my debut on Warhammer Community writing the Metawatch – How to Win With (Or Win Against) Mega-Gargants.

END CREDITS UPDATED

YouTube end screen credits continue to be updated as new Patreon’s join, update pledges & leave (but who would ever do that 😉). As always, names are ranked based on Tier Level followed by Total Duration of being on Patreon.

WHAT HAPPENED IN MARCH

I kept the March calendar flexible knowing that Broken Realms Teclis & Lumineth Realm-Lords part 2 would drop, as well as having 2 weekends taken away from recording by attending Victoria Grand Tournament as well as running Sydney Come To Blow. The latest Warhammer Preview ended up being scheduled hours before my 48 player event so I needed some beauty sleep before I TO’d.

I also recorded a Tournament Recap on Victoria GT ’21. It was a little different to the type of content I’ve recorded in the past and you all seemed to enjoy it, so I’ll aim to record more tournament recaps in the future. So far I’m booked in for a 2 day tournament in early May, mid-June, and maaaaaayyybbbeeee mid-July though I haven’t bought a ticket yet.

WHAT’S COMING IN APRIL

Right now April is focused on updated discussions on Daughters of Khaine & Hedonites of Slaanesh. Traditionally my list shows happen post-FAQ so I’ll be looking to schedule some discussions on Cities of Sigmar, Maggotkin of Nurgle, Lumineth Realm-lords, Flesh-eater Courts, and Ossiarch Bonereapers late April or early May. Sadly the 4 week FAQ cycle holds me back a little…. but I want to give you accurate information.

I’m working behind the scenes on a bunch of videos that can be recorded offline. I’ll seek out a few list discussions over April too. I’m thinking Nighthaunt need some love… not sure who else needs attention.

QUEST FOR 10,000 YT SUBSCRIBERS

The YouTube channel is just over 1,000 subscribers short of the big 10,000. This is an important milestone for us YouTubers because it’s the next ‘level’. I’ll be putting together an official merch store and I’m kicking off conversations about AoS Coach dice.

I Want Your Feedback

Tonight on Down Under Sigmar I’ll be announcing an opportunity for my viewers (and non-viewers) to provide constructive feedback on the channel… and I wanted to give you a heads up with first access.

Each question is optional so complete as much or as little of the survey as you like.

In mid-December I’ll be awarding selected responses either a Games Workshop voucher in their own country or a 12 month subscription to AoS Reminders.

I appreciate your honesty. Your feedback is how I can improve the channel in 2020 and hopefully provide you with the content that you want.

December Update

Where has this year gone?!

With one final month in 2019 before we kick into 2020, I wanted to give everyone an insight into the channel and what’s coming up. Thank you again for continuing your patronage, it’s truly appreciated;

2,500 YouTube Subscribers

Last week the channel hit 2,500 YouTube subscribers which I appreciate & humbled by the level of support. Thank you Paterons who help make this possible.

Hobby Hangout

Starting in December, I’ll schedule a monthly hobby hangout session with will be hopefully timezone friendly for the USA & UK. It’ll be a chance for you to hobby along, ask questions, and generally hang out. I’m sure as it evolves I’ll set up topics… but until then it’ll be more AMA.

Patreon Rewards

I should be expecting the acrylic accessories to arrive at my house in the next week, and will aim to get them to you for Christmas. This will be sent out to Patreon’s who have met their tier requirements.

Emerging Meta

I’ll be piloting a monthly series focused on the emerging meta in Age of Sigmar, using the data from the lists generated in AoS Reminders. I’m hoping it will be a short & punchy video which will highlight key trends for you to consider in your list building or to prepare for at your next gaming event. Stay tuned!

Faction Focus

I’ve scheduled Faction Focus Ogor Mawtribes & the long awaited Nighthaunt video for December. After these videos all I have left to complete is Flesh Eater Courts & update videos as battletomes are re-released. With that capacity unlocked, I’ll be able to focus more on the AoS Beginners Guide series.

February 2021 Update

I hope you’re all kicking arse and rolling plenty of 6’s. How are we already approaching March… seriously?!

QUEST FOR 10,000 YT SUBSCRIBERS

I’m working behind the scenes on a few things to celebrate the upcoming milestone of having 10,000 subscribers to the channel. This is an important milestone for us YouTubers because it’s the next ‘level’. I’ll be putting together an official merch store and I’m kicking off conversations about AoS Coach dice.

WHAT HAPPENED IN FEBRUARY

Another bumper month of content on the channel which included the live stream party of Lords of the Mortal Realms as well as being fortunate enough to receive the Daughters of Khaine + Hedonites of Slaanesh battletomes in advance from Games Workshop.

My favourite discussion this month would have been with Domus speaking about organising a Grand Tournament while I was proud of the Cities of Sigmar synergy guide;

WHAT’S COMING IN MARCH

March seems like a funny month for both Age of Sigmar as well as the channel. I have a few real life events happening such as a birth in the family, I’ll be attending a 2 day matched play tournament (Victoria GT) as well as hosting a 52 player 1 day event the weekend after.

It looks like we can expect Broken Realms: Teclis sometime in March which will bring updates for Lumineth Realm-lords, Cities of Sigmar, Maggotkin of Nurgle, Flesh-eater Courts & Ossiarch Bonereapers. You know I’ll be doing list discussions on them all!

I’m looking into an additional 2 Skaven videos (Clan Skryre & Clan Pestilence) and may seek a few more list discussions for the month or will record a few offline videos while we wait for BR: Teclis. Rocco Ya Boy & I recently recorded an Introduction to Tabletop Simulator which will be edited and uploaded in March.

What is currently locked in is;

VICTORIA GT

I’ve been working on my Armies on Parade entry as well as a 3rd Mega-Gargant. I’ve decided to take a Netflix & Chill Sons of Behemat army to Vic GT. I might be getting the lists early so there could be some meta analysis on the channel;

Allegiance: Sons of Behemat
– Tribe: Breaker Tribe (Fierce Loathing: Shiny ‘Uns)
Mortal Realm: Ghyran

January 2021 Update

Welcome New Patrons

Thank you to everyone who has recently joined AoS Coach on Patreon or continues to support the channel. I’m eternally grateful each and every month that you choose to contribute. I hope you’ve been seeing the improvements over the channel and your money put to work.

As always, anytime a Patreon joins or modifies their support levels…  the End Credits & YouTube channel description thank you will be updated. The credits are ordered first by Tier level then total support.

WHAT HAPPENED IN JANUARY

What a massive month of content for the YouTube channel. With a few weeks away from work and no FAQ in sight for most of January, I took the opportunity to explore some different type of content. We celebrated my Birthday with a quiz show, I stayed up until 3am live reacting to the Warhammer Preview, and got to interview a legendary Black Library author in Aaron Dembski-Bowden;

WHAT’S COMING IN FEBRUARY

Speaking of the FAQ, we got clarity on Broken Realms: Morathi as well as what points would be adjusted until GHB21 (spoiler, there were none) so I can schedule more list discussions! Here is a taste of what is coming on the channel;

I’ve got a few other items to work on as well but you can always find upcoming shows on my YouTube home page, and I’ll endeavour to make a weekly post between Twitter/YouTube Community/Discord on what’s coming up.

DISCORD

Speaking of Discord, as a Patreon you’ll be given a special role and access to a private room. If you aren’t on AoS Coach Discord I invite you to join us: https://discord.gg/xVAks8q . Please let me know if you haven’t been given the  ‘Patronage’ tag and I’ll sort that out.

September Update

Hey Team,

I wanted to give you an update on AoS Coach & let you know what’s happening behind the scenes.

September is my craziest month in the year, so I want to apologise for the silence.

For the second year in a row, I run a tournament in October known as Sydney GT. In 2018 I ran the event at a convention with 70 players however; due to one of my oldest friends getting married on that weekend I’ve broken away in 2019 with 110 players. That makes I’m fully accountable for tables, terrain, marketing, and eventually running the event.

With less than 4 weeks lefts until the big weekend, it’s been heads down and bum up. Speaking to potential sponsors, painting terrain, etc.

Here’s a few snaps from the terrain I’ll have on the tables. Each table will have a theme (Duardin, Chaos, Destruction);

Games Workshop is one of my official sponsors and they’ve generously donated 4 ForgeWorld trophies & an industrial amount of Azyrite Ruins. It literally took me a whole weekend to clip, clean & glue them.

So what’s coming up for the channel?

  • Faction Focus Seraphon is scheduled for this upcoming weekend
  • I’ll be looking to pick up Faction Focus Flesh Eater Courts again after some guests weren’t able to secure a mutual time
  • Down Under Sigmar has been scheduled up until mid-November with a range of topics
  • Last week we recorded Tournament Organiser Talk with two amazing TO’s. If you’re running or thinking about running an event, it’s worth checking out for great hints & tips.
  • I’ll be looking to set up that podcast for Down Under Sigmar in the near future.

After Sydney GT I’ll be back to a regular schedule and picking up the Cities of Sigmar for CanCon 2020, Australia & the world’s largest Age of Sigmar event.

The Empire / Free People are my first love so expect to hear more about this project.

I enhanced the Patron tiers with more information about your rewards. A Discord has been set up, Patron’s are being thanked, and I now have stickers for you (not the Sydney GT, that’S for the event attendees). Take a moment to check out the rewards.

Finally, I’ve gone out and purchased a mobile recording accessory. This will hopefully allow me to record more player interviews, and record while on the road.

I’m looking forward to getting back to a normal schedule and thank you for your patience.
